What's that smell? The subway!
Following the sewage smell and the heat that's making the whole city pretty stinky this week, news of a scratch and sniff book about New York City is pretty timely. After narrowly avoiding stepping in a pile of horse manure, Amber C. Jones decided she'd like to write a kids book that encompasses an authentic NYC experience, which focuses on the various smells of the city. “New York, Phew York: A Scratch-N-Sniff Adventure" will smell like this:
Certain smells are synonymous with different neighborhoods, Jones said. So Little Italy will smell like pizza. The Upper East Side will carry whiffs of pastrami sandwiches. And Central Park will be a mix of horse manure and trees, Jones said.
Other scents will include fish, garbage, churros, pickles and bagels, she added.
The ambitious book has scared off publishers due to the cost, so Jones is trying to self-publish.
Of course, this leads to the question: What would a page about Ditmas Park smell like? Maybe things baking at La Nueva Union, or wood burning in people's fireplaces in the winter?
