Beloved East Hampton Hairdresser Battling Cancer, Friends Come Together

EAST HAMPTON, NY — She's a familiar face and beloved friend who's been there for the milestone moments in the lives of East Hampton families, smiling happily as she gently gave a baby's first haircut or a special up-do for the prom.

And now, East Hampton's Trudy Lester is battling a rare form of cancer — and her legions of friends are rallying to help.

A GoFundMe, "Helping Our Friend Trudy Lester," has raised $9,810 of its $25,000 goal so far.

"Our friend Trudy Lester has been battling a rare form of cancer for many years now," wrote Lorna Cook, who created the page. "The time has come; she needs our help. Trudy has been in a hospital in New Jersey now for the past two weeks."

She added, "Trudy’s personal expenses are growing, as are the doctor and hospital bills. I am hoping that we can pass on the word and start the donation process. Joe has been staying in a hotel while Trudy has been in the care of the hospital. The costs of the hotel, food, gas etc. are astronomical."
