Beloved Sag Harbor Children's Librarian Battling Lung Cancer, Friends Reaching Out

BREAKING: She's an ardent animal advocate and beloved children's librarian. And now she's in a fight against cancer.

SAG HARBOR, NY — She's a passionate animal advocate who's spent years helping homeless four-legged friends, and a beloved children's librarian. And now Sue Farrell is waging perhaps her greatest battle — against lung cancer.

Friends have come together to help Farrell in her time of need. A GoFundMe created by Tanya Poole of Riverhead, "Help Sue Farrell Fight Lung Cancer," has raised $4,775 of its $10,000 goal so far.

"Many of you know the sweet, compassionate, energetic Sue Farrell from her devoted work through SAVES Inc. or as the beloved children's librarian at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor, or by her love and compassion as a devoted mother of two teenage children who attend the Riverhead School District," Poole wrote.

"She has a joyous personality and knows how to bring a smile to everyone's face. Although she is a dedicated and hardworking woman, Sue has recently been diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of lung cancer. In a matter of one month she went from spending time with her family, to setting up activities with children at the library and saving hundreds of abandoned and stray cats, to now being housebound. She is even connected to oxygen 24/7 so she can breathe and function through the day."

Farrell, her friend said, can no longer continue her working career; her husband will have to take time off to comfort and care for her.

"He will also need to bring and accompany Sue back and forth from her many upcoming procedures and surgeries, which are sure to be outrageously costly. Please give what you can to aid Sue. She needs your support. Help the pillar of the community beat cancer," Poole said.
