Community's Input Welcomed At Talk With Rabbi On Bias Issues

EAST HAMPTON, NY — The public's input is welcomed at an East Hampton Town community meeting led by Rabbi Steve Moss on bias issues confronting the community.

Rabbi Steven Moss, chairperson of the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission, will speak at the meeting, sponsored by the East Hampton Town Anti-Bias Task Force on Wednesday, June 14. The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the main meeting room at East Hampton Town Hall, located at 159 Pantigo Road.

On the table for discussion will be common anti-bias concerns that confront residents of East Hampton Town and Suffolk County.

Rabbi Moss, appointed to the Human Rights Commission in 1992, is also chair of the Suffolk County Inter-Faith Anti-Bias Task Force and has served the B’nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale as its spiritual leader since 1972, a release from East Hampton Town said.

In addition, Rabbi Moss is chief of chaplains for the Suffolk County Police Department, the Chiefs of Police Association and the Police Association, and is chaplain for many local hospitals and senior facilities.

Among his array of awards, Rabbi Moss has been the recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award, the Chaplain of the Year Award in 1987, the Rabbi of the Year in 2007 — given by the New York Board of Rabbis — and the Lehman-LaGuardia Award for Civic Achievement in 2009.

In 2003, he was appointed to the Board of the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding with a Holocaust Collection, which he currently chairs.

Rabbi Moss, the release adds, is the longest sitting member of the Islip Town board of ethics and chair of the Islip Town anti-bias task force.
