Desperate Search On for Missing Dog, Oliver, in East Hampton

BREAKING: The 7 lb. poodle mix went missing in Sunday night's rainstorm and couldn't find his way home, his distraught owner said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A heartbroken East Hampton woman has been searching for her lost dog Oliver, who went missing in Sunday night's heavy rain.

Karen Chavarria said her dog, a 7 lb. white poodle mix who's a year and eight months old, went out Sunday night around 2 a.m., between Abrahams Path and Town Lane in East Hampton.

"He wandered off right before the heavy rainfall. I don't know which way he went. He didn't come back," she said.

Oliver will take off after a scent, she said, and "wanders off a little further than he should. This time it started raining and he couldn't make his way back."

Her pup, Chavarria said, loves tennis balls. "If you throw him a tennis ball he'd go right after it."

He does not, however, care for regular dog treats such as milk bone-style cookies. "He'll spit it right back out," she said.

But, she said, if a person says "treat, treat" twice, "he'll get excited and want to see what you have for him."

Oliver is extremely playful and friendly, and loves other dogs.

Chavarria and her boyfriend Angelo Guarin are heartbroken.

"I can't believe he's missing right now. It's like a nightmare. That night, I walked in the rain until the sun came out. It was horrible," she said.

A reward has been offered for Oliver's safe return. Anyone with information is asked to call 631-377-2584 or 631-268-6246.
