Jason Lee Found Not Guilty of All Charges on Wednesday

Lee was accused of raping a 20-year-old Irish woman in his East Hampton home back in 2013.

Jason Lee, a 38-year-old former Wall Street executive, accused of raping a 20-year-old Irish woman in his East Hampton vacation home in 2013, was acquitted of all charges in court on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas J. Spota was disappointed with the verdict and disagreed with State Supreme Court Justice Barbara Kahn, who ruled him not guilty in all charges including first degree rape, sexual misconduct and third degree assault, according to 27east.

“I think the evidence clearly proved the defendant is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” he told 27east. “As far as the non-appearance of the victim’s brother, we made every effort possible … constantly urging him to come forward. He chose not to come forward and I don’t think that hurt the case at all. But I can’t account for the judge’s thinking. We disagree, that’s all I can say.”

One of Lee’s lawyers, Edward Burke Jr. states that the accusation made by the woman was a “false accusation”, according to Newsday.

“We’re very troubled it went this far,” Burke told Newsday.

Although Kahn did not give a reason for her verdict, she said she “made a careful review of the evidence” and “decided that the burden of proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt was not met,” according to Newsday.

On Tuesday, Andrew M. Lankler, Lee’s lead attorney, gave a summary of the case and listed some inconsistencies between the testimony of the woman who accused Lee of rape earlier this month and the police statements she made back in 2013, according to The East Hampton Star.

Lankler told Khan that the inconsistencies alone were enough to create “reasonable doubt” and when ”you add them all up together” she would fine Lee was not guilty, according to The East Hampton Star.
