The fire that occurred at the Montauk Yacht Club on Sunday night that caused minor damage to one hotel room appears to have been caused by a built-in electric wall heater inside the room, according to a report in The East Hampton Star.

Firefighters responded to the yacht club, which is currently closed for the season, after the alarm in the room went off shortly after 9 a.m., according to the report.

The room was unoccupied but the alarms and heat were still running, which may be the cause of the fire caused damage to a bathroom and spread to an outside wall before it was extinguished, according to the report.

Local firefighters responded to a small fire that broke out at the Montauk Yacht Club on Sunday night, according to multiple reports.

The Montauk Fire Department received the call at about 9:20 a.m. when the north building of the club, located on 32 Star Island Drive, saw flames, according to The East Hampton Star.

Several units, including the Amagansett and East Hampton Fire Departments, were called to the scene, and were able to extinguish the fire within half an hour, according to Newsday.
