Man Caught Driving While Impaired by Drugs: Police

The man was nabbed after he failed to signal at a stop sign, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was arrested after he was caught driving while impaired by drugs, police said.

According to East Hampton Police, Jefferson D. Eames, 48, was arrested on Nov. 15 at 1:07 p.m. on Abrahams Path in East Hampton and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, first offense, a misdemeanor.

He was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado north and failed to signal at the stop sign at the intersection of Abrahams Path and Springs Fireplace Road, police said.

Upon contact, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, he had slurred speech, there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, he was unsteady on his feet, he had poor coordination, constricted pupils, displayed an inability to focus, had shifting and dramatic mood swings, was irritable and anxious, and performed poorly on field sobriety tests administered, police said.

A police report did not indicate what type of drugs Eames was impaired by.

Cash bail was set at $750, police said.
