Montauk 'Turkey Trot' Draws Huge Crowd: Photos
It was the largest turnout in the event's history.
MONTAUK, NY — The 41st Annual "Turkey Trot Run For Fun" in Montauk on Thanksgiving Day had the largest turnout in its history, according to East Hampton Town Superintendent of Recreation John Rooney.
Participants were lined up out the door of the Montauk Chamber of Commerce Building, anxious to take part in the 3 mile or 6 mile races that started at 10 a.m. Once again, race founder John Keeshan and Bob Beattie of official timers' Island Timing, directed the official start.
East Hampton Town Police, including police officers Kenny Alversa, Dennis Shea, and Ed Ecker, Dick White and Charlie Morici of Montauk Fire Department's Fire Police Company No. 6 made sure that traffic and crowds were safe.
