Paddlers Unite To Clean Up "Magic Place"
The cleanup takes place Saturday in what one woman calls "a magic place."

EAST HAMPTON, NY — In an effort to keep what she calls a "magic place" beautiful, Evelyn O'Doherty, an avid, year-round stand-up paddler, will join with Accabonac Protection Committee and Surfrider Foundation, Eastern Long Island chapter, to lead a special paddlers’ cleanup of Kaplan Meadows Sanctuary, which has as its heart a grove of cedars on the northwest side of Accabonac Harbor, this weekend.
The cleanup will gather at Landing Lane at 10 a.m. on Saturday and head out at 10:30 a.m. All types of person-propelled watercraft are welcome.
O'Doherty paddled to the cedar grove recently and found that “high tides and winds have brought a huge, ugly accumulation of trash to the area."

Her discovery led her to contact APC and Surfriders to plan the unusual cleanup, a release said.
“I love this area of East Hampton and feel the water out there is my second home. I'd love to get further involved with protecting it," she said.
