Three Men Rescued From Sinking Boat Off Montauk Point

The incident occurred on Saturday night.

Three people were rescued from a sinking boat off of Montauk on Saturday night.

Both East Hampton Town Police and the U.S. Coast Guard responded on a report of a vessel in distress off Montauk Point at about 6 p.m., according to a report in Newsday.

The boat, a white 1962 Triumph named Margaret Mary, which contained a Mastic Beach man and two Shirley men, was heading west from Montauk when it began sinking in the 50-feet deep waters, 27east reports.

Before Coast Guard officers were able to be deployed, the captain of the boat was forced to beach the boat on the shoreline at Napeague State Park, according to 27east.

No injuries were reported and it is still unknown what caused the boat to be in distress.
