Town, Village Embark To Open New, Joint Fuel Facility

Consolidation of services will mean a savings of $1.5 million, elected officials said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — With an eye toward cost sharing and savings, East Hampton Town and East Hampton Village have teamed up to open a new joint fuel facility next week.

The new facility, located at the East Hampton Town Highway Department at 258 Springs Fireplace Road, will open Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m.

The facility will provide gasoline and diesel fuel for the town’s and village’s vehicle fleets.

According to officials, when the need arose to replace a fueling station owned by the village and two owned by the town, at a cost of $1.5 million, the town and village decided to consolidate services and create a joint fuel facility at a cost of $350,000. The $750,000 construction cost, official said, was offset by a $400,000 consolidated-services grant from New York State.

“We must continue to work together to consolidate facilities and services where possible to make local government more efficient and utilize our resources to benefit taxpayers,” said Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell.

“The Village of East Hampton is a proud partner with the Town in this endeavor,” added Village Mayor Paul Rickenbach. “Both municipalities recognized a mutual need and were able to develop a sound, working intergovernmental relationship that will allow us to deliver the same services at a lower cost to our residents. The new fuel facility will be a welcomed asset and we look forward to getting it up and running."
