Woman Reaches Out To Help Sister With Medical BIlls

A woman who is unable to work due to medical issues and mounting medical bills has a sister who's trying to reach out and help.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — In times of trouble, family and friends rally to support one another.

In East Hampton, Joanne Gant created a GoFundMe page, "Kathy's Medical Bills and Household," which has raised $250 of its $5,000 goal.

"I am asking for finacial help for my sister Kathy Holmes," she wrote.

Her sister, she said, "has had numerous heath problems over the last few years," which have gotten worse, including removal of a portion of her intestines, surgery to widen her esophagus, and subsequent issues with eating and digestion.

"She remained strong and continued to work," the page read. "In July she was taken to the hospital with horrible back pain and had to remain there for a few days. They found out she has fractured bones on both sides of her lower lumbar, which may require more surgery. She was told not to return to work."

Although her sister has applied for disability, Gante said the process takes time, and her sister will not be "Social Security age until next year.Kathy has many doctor bills and household bills that she cannot handle . . . and hopefully someone will be able to help her through this difficult time. She's not one to ask for help."

That's why Gant said, she turned to GoFundMe, to help her sister during her time of great need.

"I know times are hard for the average person but thank you for reading this and bless you if you can find the means to help her out. Thank you."
