Cops: Teen Tried to Steal Car as Owner Slept in Backseat

Incident happened Thursday morning in Uniondale, police said.

A teenager tried to steal a car Thursday morning in Uniondale while its owner slept in the backseat , according to Nassau County Police.

At 4:59 a.m., Jordan Jackson, 17, of Uniondale, entered a running 2006 Infiniti sedan on Fullerton Street and tried to drive away, cops said. A 32-year-old man who owned the car woke up in the back seat and fought with Jackson to get control of the wheel, police said.

Jackson drove erratically down Fullerton Avenue and struck a parked BMW before crashing through a chain link fence, cops said. The car owner was able to hold Jackson at the scene until officers arrived.

The victim reported “substantial shoulder pain” at the scene but refused medical attention, cops said. Jackson escaped the crash unharmed.

Jackson was charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
