An East Meadow man who beat his wife to death with a dumbbell in 2015 pleaded guilty on Friday to second-degree murder charges.

Hector Bejarano, 54, of East Meadow, pleaded guilty before Judge Jerald Carter to murder in the second degree and will face 18 years to life in prison at his sentencing on Jan. 4.

On April 28, 2015 at approximately 4 p.m., police responded to a 911 call made from a residence on Prospect Avenue in East Meadow shared by Bejarano and his wife, Mirian. Upon their arrival, police found Bejarano’s wife of nearly 30 years lying on the floor unconscious. She had been beaten to death with a dumbbell.

Bejarano fled the scene after committing the murder and was on the run for two weeks. He was arrested by members of the Nassau County Police Department at his East Meadow home after he returned to eat and do laundry on May 14. He also left a confession note in a bedroom of the home for his daughter.
