WESTBURY, NY — The Nassau County Police Department is investigating a suspicious fire that almost took the lives of five people in Westbury early Thursday morning.
According to police, a 27-year-old woman was in the bedroom of her home on Madison Street at 1:20 a.m. when she heard glass break and then began to smell smoke. She woke up four men who were in the home — ages 8, 33, 42 and 51 — and all five got out of the house safely.
The Westbury Fire Department responded to the scene, and was assisted by the East Meadow, Hicksville, Jericho, Syosset and East Williston fire departments. The fire was put out, but the home was severely damaged.
