Remains Of Teen Slaughtered by MS-13 Found Near High School
Police say the remains belong to a teenage boy who was a victim of MS-13 violence.

Nassau Police have confirmed that they have recovered remains of a teenage boy in a wooded area in East Meadow, near Kellenberg Memorial High School.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder confirmed that the remains were that of a boy in his late teenage years, although the remains have not yet been identified. Ryder said that the teen was murdered at the location a little over a year ago.
"It is MS-13 related," Ryder said during a press briefing, adding that investigators believe they already have five people in jail that were responsible for the murder. He wouldn't comment on how many more people may have been involved.

According to Ryder, the NCPD received information about the remains Tuesday. Nassau officers, along with investigators from the Drug Enforcement Agency and Homeland Security Investigations, looked at the area and identified a possible grave site. Investigators returned this morning and began to dig, which uncovered the remains.
"We will be relentless in the pursuit of these individuals that have committed these crimes in Nassau County," Ryder said. "There have been no MS-13 murders this year in Nassau. All of these bodies we recovered are from last year or the year before."

The victim, who will be identified through DNA testing, may have been an MS-13 member himself who was killed after an internal gang dispute, NBC 4 reported, citing a senior law enforcement source.
Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas echoed Ryder's sentiments about the doggedness of law enforcement when it comes to hunting down members of MS-13.
"This body belonged to a person," she said. "This was someone's son, someone's brother, someone's friend. There is no place for this here in Nassau County."
Ryder said that the conditions at the dig site make it difficult to work. The area is thick with brambles, and investigators first had to cut away a 20-by-30 foot area to gain access to the site. The density of the site, combined with the day's intense heat, have made the work difficult. Ryder said that the dig will continue throughout the day and into the night to make sure there are no other remains there.
"There are too many parents, too many families, who have seen their children butchered by these gangs," said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. "This must stop."
On Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced $8.35 million in grant awards to fight back against MS-13 on Long Island to help keep young people from falling prey to gang recruitment.
