Woman Leaves 5-Year-Old in Car to Shop at Target: Police

BREAKING: The 29-year-old allegedly told police she "was only gone a few minutes."

LEVITTOWN, NY – A 29-year-old woman faces a child endangerment charge after she left her 5-year-old child inside her car while she shopped at a Levittown Target Wednesday afternoon, Nassau Police said.

Second Precinct police officers responded to the store located at 3850 Hempstead Turnpike at about 3:43 p.m. after a report of a child left unattended in a running car in a carseat.

When police arrived, the mother of the child, Juliia Medvid, of Montauk Highway in Copiague, exited the store and stated that she was only gone a few minutes, police said.

The child, who was not injured, was released to a family friend, and Medvid was arrested at the scene.

Medvid is charged with endangering welfare of a child and will be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
