Medical Assistant For Nassau Doctor Forged Painkiller Prescriptions: Police

The woman was arrested Tuesday.

A medical assistant for a Hicksville doctor was arrested Tuesday after police say she forged prescriptions for painkillers over the course of six months.

According to authorities, Katarina Tountas, 34, of Farmingdale, used a computer to forge electronic prescriptions of Percocet, a form of Oxycodone, from August 2015 to February 2016.

An investigation revealed Tountas sent six different electronic prescriptions to a local pharmacy, police say.

She was arrested in Farmingdale without incident. Tountas was charged with six counts of second-degree forgery. She was arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Bail was set at $1,000 and it was no posted. Tountas is set to appear in court Friday.
