• 1,000 miles from Nashville, country music is thriving on Long Island (newsday.com) — Country line dancing is drawing big weekly crowds to The Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale, turning Tuesday "Country Night" into a social hub for dancers from across Long Island. Locals describe finding community, fitness and even relationships on the bar's dance floor, as country culture spreads from Patchogue to Port Jefferson and beyond with festivals, concerts and themed venues.
   

• Memorial Bridge Dedication Ceremony (ny.gov) — New York State Police Troop L will host a memorial bridge dedication ceremony for fallen Trooper James M. MacLarnon at their headquarters at Republic Airport in Farmingdale on October 2 at 10:45 a.m. Local residents should expect media and officials at the airport and may wish to attend or be aware of the tribute before the nearby Wantagh Parkway bridge is renamed in his honor.
