LI Family Stranded In Fire Island Inlet Rescued By Police Hovercraft (patch.com) — A Copiague family, including a 2-year-old, was rescued after their boat ran aground in the Fire Island Inlet during low tide late Saturday night. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers used a hovercraft to reach the stranded vessel and bring everyone safely to shore; the child was treated for minor injuries, and no one else was hurt.
   

2. LI oyster farm, arts group give shells new life (libn.com) — Fire Island School District is among the first to receive hundreds of cleaned oyster shells for student art projects, thanks to a new Long Island Creative Reuse Project. An Islip oyster farm and the Long Island Arts Alliance are teaming up to divert thousands of shells from landfills and channel them to schools, museums, and artists across the region.
