Nassau Burglary Call Ends With Homeowner Arrest For Weapons Stockpile: Police
Ilya Ostrovskiy was found to be in possession of 19 assault rifles and numerous other weapons and body armor, police say.
HEWLETT HARBOR, NY — A Hewlett man, who was being burglarized, was arrested for having a weapons stockpile at his home.
As three unknown men broke into the Hewlett Harbor home early Friday, police said, they heard the house alarm and fled the home of 37-year-old Ilya Ostrovskiy.
One of the men took off in the homeowner's 2023 Audi Rs 6. Ostrovskiy fired three shots at the men as they drove away, authorities said.

An investigation revealed Ostrovskiy was in possession of 22 semi-automatic guns, 19 assault rifles, numerous red dot pistol and rifle sights. Police also found high-capacity magazines, ballistic plates and body armor plates.
Ostrovskiy was placed into custody without incident. He faces charges that include first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and unlawful wearing of body armor. He was held on bail of $200,000 cash or $400,000 bail bond.

He will be held at the Nassau County Jail until his next court appearance on July 18.
