Drinking Behind The Wheel Leads To Weapons Arrest: Police

Police say they saw a man drinking in his parked car, then found a gun in the vehicle.

Nassau police arrested a Suffolk County man Tuesday night on weapons charges after they allegedly found him drinking in his car.

According to police, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team officers were on patrol in Valley Stream at 8:15 p.m. when they saw a 2003 Lincoln parked more than 12 inches from the curb. Police say they also saw the driver, Damion Edwards, 37, of Copiague, drinking an alcoholic beverage while sitting behind the wheel of the parked car.

While investigating, police say they saw a handgun tucked between Edwards and the center console. Edwards was removed from the car and placed under arrest without incident.
