Edna Shostak of North Woodmere to Celebrate 100th Birthday
Resident of the Bristal Assisted Living Community of North Woodmere Turns 100

Friends and family will gather from 12 noon until 2:30 PM on Friday, August 29th at the Bristal Assisted Living Community of North Woodmere located at 477 Hungry Harbor Road in Valley Stream to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Edna Shostak.
Mrs. Shostak will be joined by joined her daughter Lucy, a resident of Baldwin who is a retired Physical Education Teacher in the Massapequa School District, her three grandchildren, Susanna, Sarah and Adam, and her great grandson, Ethan.
Edna, who has lived at the Bristal of North Woodmere since 2003, was born in Brooklyn. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1924 and worked as a biology lab assistant at Thomas Jefferson High School and James Madison High School in Brooklyn. She was married to her husband Jerome for more than 60 years until his passing at the age of 91 in 2004. Mr. Shostak was an English Teacher and Guidance Counselor in New York City and the author and editor of the “Vocabulary Workshop” series of books.

Mrs. Shostak’s late daughter Marjorie, an associate of the Peabody Museum of Archeology and Ethnology at Harvard, was a leader in women’s studies, authoring two books: “Nisa: The Life and Words of a Kung Woman” and “Nisa Revisited.”
