Funding To Rebuild Ramps On Portion Of Southern State Parkway

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A state lawmaker has secured funding for upgrades to a portion of the Southern State Parkway.

An allocation of $20 million will go toward reconfiguring the eastbound Central Avenue interchange at Exit 13 of the parkway in Valley Stream, Assemblymember Michaelle Solages announced.

"The safety of the Southern State Parkway is a long-standing regional issue for Long Island that requires our full attention and energy. I thank Speaker Carl Heastie for his assistance in helping to secure these funds for our community," Solages said in a statement. "I look forward to continuing to work with the Hochul administration to ensure we are prioritizing safe roadways for vehicles and pedestrians alike."

The funds are part of a five-year, $32.8 billion New York State Department of Transportation capital plan for federal funding on large infrastructure projects.

"This undertaking includes redesigning Exit 13 on the Southern State Parkway, now in the planning phase, to enhance safety and improve mobility," Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said.
