QUEENS, NY — A Queens man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection to the 2021 shooting death of an Elmont man.

"By pleading guilty, the defendant admitted responsibility for ending a man’s life during a craven robbery attempt," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced.

Edson Giron Figueroa, 21, of Jamaica, pleaded to first-degree manslaughter for the killing of 25-year-old Albert Serrato.

When Serrato turned around, Giron Figueroa fired several times and ran away.

Justice Kenneth Holder is expected to sentence Giron Figueroa on March 21 to 20 years in prison and five years post-release supervision, Katz's office said.

"I hope this resolution brings closure for the victim’s family," Katz said.
