LI Woman Writes First Children Book

Leslie Gang, who runs the non-profit Hindi's Libraries, penned "But Family is Forever."

HEWLETT, NY — The co-founder of Hindi's Libraries, an international non-profit, has published her first children's book.

Leslie Gang, who lives in Hewlett, created the 24-page book "But Family is Forever."

"I love to rhyme. Working in a school with students in all grade levels, it's fun when we find an opportunity to do some classwork where it involves rhyming," Gang told Patch.

She is the director of communications at the Brandeis School in Lawrence.

During the 2020 COVID-19 shutdown, while packing and shipping donated books to youngsters for her non-profit, she decided to do some writing.

"How cool would be if one of my books gets put into this box?" she thought.

Gang's book focuses on two themes: Family is what matters and not every family looks the same.

"I wanted children to see themselves in the book," Gang said.

It's her first literary effort, but her experience with poetry goes back to when she was in high school, winning a few contests.

Future books for Gang are possible, but she cautioned, "I can't just write for the hell of it. I need to have the substance there. It's much harder, I find, to write without the basis of an idea."

She isn't taking money for the book. Every dollar she receives from her publisher is being donated to her non-profit "so we can continue shipping books to children in need."
