Man Leads Cops On Chase On Southern State, Resists Arrest: Police

During the 39-year-old's arrest, a multi-car crash occurred causing him and two officers to be injured, police say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY - A Brentwood man was arrested after leading police on a chase and resisting arrest on the Southern State Parkway in Valley Stream on Saturday, according to State Police.

At about 2:02 a.m., two troopers pulled over a car driven by 39-year-old Derrick Douglas after a brief pursuit on the parkway east of N. Fletcher Avenue, police said.

The troopers tried to restrain Douglas, who actively resisted arrest, police said.

While placing Douglas into custody, an uninvolved Mercedes struck the back of a Toyota pickup truck, which then struck a trooper and Douglas' car, police said.

The second trooper was injured while jumping out of the way.

All three sustained non-life-threatening injuries, were treated and released from the hospital.

Douglas was arrested and taken into custody for resisting arrest and drug related charges, police said.

Additional charges are pending.
