Nassau Man Charged With DWI After Hitting Cop Car: Police
State troopers were performing a traffic stop when a pickup truck hit their cruiser and drove off.

A Hewlett man was arrested Tuesday night after state police say he drunkenly drove into a trooper's car and left the scene, before being brought back by a tow truck operator.
According to police, state troopers conducted a traffic stop on the Southern State Parkway eastbound lanes, near Exit 22, around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night. Police say a black Dodge Ram pickup truck side-swiped the driver's side of the trooper's cruiser and then fled the scene. The Nassau County Police Department located the truck a short time later at the intersection of Underhill Boulevard and Babylon Turnpike in Roosevelt. The truck had severe collision damage.
A tow truck operator responded to the scene, and police say he saw a man walking in the the vicinity of the pickup. The man then asked the two truck driver for a ride. Police say the tower, who knew about the accident, drove the man to the scene of the accident and told the state troopers. The troopers investigated, and police say they determined the man was the driver of the truck.

Police arrested Mark Trebendis, 51, of Hewlett. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and unlawful possession of marijuana.
