Nassau Man Sentenced For 2007 Murder

Authorities say he fatally shot a man while trying to break into his apartment to steal drugs and money.

A Woodmere man who pleaded guilty to murder last December was sentenced to 25 years in jail by a federal judge on Monday.

Kensil Dexter Fender, also know as English, was sentenced for the murder of Rowan Clarke, which occurred on April 2, 2008. Fender had pleaded guilty to the murder on Dec. 14, 2017.

“More than a decade ago, Fender murdered a man while trying to commit a home invasion drug robbery," said US Attorney Richard Donoghue. "With today’s sentence, he learns that justice does not forget and does not rest."

According to Donoghue, on April 2, 2017, Fender and another man tried to rob Clarke, who they believed had drugs and money in his Manhattan apartment. Fender and his partner tried to push their way into the apartment and struggled with Clarke. During the struggle, they fatally shot Clarke. Police were able to identify Fender from DNA on a piece of jewelry that was left at the scene.

Authorities say that, in addition to his role in the murder, Fender was a drug distributor who bought and sold large amounts of marijuana.
