Nassau Police Tracking Car Stealing Duo

The police are seeking the public's help to find the two, who seem to be targeting delivery drivers in the Five Towns area.

A pair of people stole a delivery driver's car and took it for a joy ride on Wednesday, police say, and they may have done the same thing many other times in the area.

According to police, a 54-year-old man was delivering food for Happy Wok Chinese Restaurant to 13 Bernard Avenue in North Lawrence around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. When he arrived, though, he found that there was no number 13. The driver knocked on the door of number 11, and as he did, two men jumped out of a black minivan with Indiana license plates, got into the delivery driver's car and sped off. They headed west on Bernard Avenue toward Nassau Expressway.

The car was later recovered in front of 98 Henry Street. Police say that further investigation has linked the two men to other incidents:

  • Dec. 24 — North Woodmere, 2:08 p.m., near 1096 Strathmore St.
  • Jan. 1 — Franklin Square, 6 p.m., near 819 Palmetto Drive.
  • Jan. 1 — North Woodmere, 8:40 p.m., near 36 Janet Place. Car was later recovered on Strathmore Street.
  • Jan. 24 — Valley Stream, 4:22 p.m., near 24 Gotham St.
