FLUSHING, QUEENS — A Flushing woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault for severely beating her infant twins, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured.

Tina Torabi, 30, was arrested and charged Thursday with the death of her 13-month-old daughter, prosecutors announced.

Torabi was previously charged with assault after authorities found the girl and her twin brother severely beaten in their Auburndale home on Oct. 3, 2018.

The medical examiner determined in March that the girl, Elaina Torabi, died from fatal child abuse syndrome. Her brother, Kian, survived but suffered rib fractures, a fractured pelvis, contusions on his lungs and an adrenal hemorrhage, prosecutors said.

Shortly after the charges were announced, the twins' father, Mohammad Reza Torabi, leapt to his death from a Midtown Manhattan hotel.

Elaina's death came just two days after workers from the city's Administration for Children's Services checked in on the family and found no signs of abuse, according to the New York Daily News.

Prosecutors said Thursday that they expect a judge to sentence Torabi to at least eight years in prison for the manslaughter and assault charges. Torabi will be sentenced on May 30.
