#68: Edgemere Park

Edgemere serves the southwest section of Garden City.

Nestled in the southwest section of Garden City is Edgemere Park, located at Yale Street and Edgemere Road.

Like Nassau Haven, Grove, Hemlock and Tullamore Park, it has a number of amenities. The sturdy playground equipment is fun to play on, the tennis court is used a lot, the two basketball courts are available and the baseball/softball field has ample room.

Kelly Arendt visited Edgemere Park recently with her two daughters. As the girls climbed the equipment, she remarked, “They’ve done a fabulous job with the parks in Garden City.”

When Claire (2) finished climbing she added, “This one is best because of the ‘Spiderweb.’ I like Hemlock Park too, because my aunt lives there.”

Mary H. was also visiting Edgemere Park. She was showing her son, Jacob, the park she used to play in as a child. Describing her fond memories, Mary reminisced, “I lived in Stewart Manor and went to St. Anne’s School. We had a ‘Field Day’ here with a softball game that was students vs. teachers. I also remember coming here in the 1970s for a Halloween event. We had a parade and prizes with donuts to eat.”

Erik Holzkamp was also at the park, with his daughter, Lauryn (5). He commented, “We’re driving by Edgemere and Lauryn says, ‘That’s my park!’“ Lauryn had fun swinging on the swings with dad and making “chocolate ice cream with sprinkles” out of sticks and rocks.
