All Eyes To The Sky At The Cradle Of Aviation

Hundreds from all over Long Island turned out for the museum's eclipse watching event.

The Cradle of Aviation in Garden City hosted one of Long Island's largest eclipse-viewing gatherings, with hundreds of people from all over coming to watch the celestial phenomenon together.

The lines started forming early, and the supply of eclipse-viewing glasses that the museum had were quickly given away. However, that did not deter anyone from coming to enjoy the show. Museum staff were helping people to make pinhole viewers, and they were also streaming the event live from NASA at a television outside, and in two spots inside.

Also, Long Islanders know how to help each other out. People were sharing their glasses freely, so everyone was able to get at least one look at the moon passing in front of the sun.

In addition to the eclipse viewing, the museum also had educational events to teach kids how eclipses happen.

Visitors to the museum were also able to write down their thoughts about the experience that will be sealed in a time capsule to be opened in 2024 — the next time Long Island will be able to view a solar eclipse.
