Bites Nearby: Ruth's Chris Steak House

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Garden City Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here’s this week’s choice:

Ruth’s Chris Steak House: In marketing, it has been said that to capture the attention of customers, you don’t sell them on the steak, you sell them on the sizzle. At Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Garden City, the sizzle and the steak are part-and-parcel of what makes this place special. Ruth’s Chris sears its steaks in a special 1,800-degree broiler to seal in the juices. The fresh butter topping ensures that the steaks will sizzle when it arrives at your table.

Ruth’s Chris, which began as a small New Orleans steakhouse, celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2010. The Garden City location, near the Old Country Road entrance to Roosevelt Field Mall, is the only Long Island venue.

There are seven types of steaks here. The Filet is a tender cut corn-fed Midwestern beef; then there is the Petite filet; the Ribeye, “well-marbeled” for a juicy flavor; the Cowboy Ribeye; the New York Strip, which is slightly firmer than the Ribeye; the T-bone; and the Porterhouse for two.

Salads and sides featured are sliced tomato and onion; the steakhouse salad; the Caesar; Ruth’s jumbo chopped salad; the harvest salad and a lettuce wedge.

There are a few non-steak items on the menu, among them barbecue shrimp and fresh lobster.
