Nassau Man Assaulted Officers Who Were Arresting Him: Police
Police say one officer had his wrist broken in the struggle.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Hempstead man was arrested early Tuesday after police say he assaulted officer who were trying to arrest him for breaking into a car.
According to police, Hempstead Police Department officers were on patrol when they saw Corey Anthony, 50, of Hemsptead, taking items from a car with a broken rear window on North Franklin Avenue. As the officers approached, police say Anthony fled on foot, and the officers gave chase.
The officers stopped Anthony near Bedell and Terrace avenues, police say. As they tried to place him under arrest, police say Anthony violently resisted, flailing his arms and kicking and punching the officers. He was eventually placed into custody, but two officers were injured.

The two officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. One had a broken wrist and the other had swelling and bruising on his left arm.
Anthony was charged with second-degree assault and petty larceny. He was arraigned earlier today in First District Court in Hempstead.
