Nassau Police Make Arrest In Hempstead Murder

UPDATE: Police have still not yet said how the victim was killed.

UPDATE: Nassau police have arrested Kevin Pratt, 24, of Hempstead, in connection with the murder. Pratt is charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in the murder as Taracker McClendon, 59, of Hempstead. There is still no word on how or why they were killed.

ORIGINAL STORY: Nassau police are investigating a murder that occurred in Hempstead Tuesday night, but details are scarce.

According to police, Hempstead police officers responded to a call for a disturbance at 115 Harvard St. at 9:01 p.m. When they arrived, they found a female victim, who was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to Newsday, police have a suspect in custody, but he has not been charged yet.

Harvard Street is also where a police officer shot at a suspect during a traffic stop early Monday morning. Nassau police are still investigating that incident, too.

Police say there is no more information at this time, and that the investigation is ongoing. Detectives request anyone with information regarding the murder to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
