NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Nassau County's NICE Bus service has instituted new cleaning protocols to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus in the area. County Executive Laura Curran announced the new procedures at a press conference today.

According to Curran, the NICE Bus service has new daily cleaning procedures. Employees will be disinfecting all stations and buses every day. All 285 buses and 100 paratransit vehicles are being santized every night, with a focus on areas that are touched often, such as poles, handrails and seats.

The transportation service will also be installing public service messages in all vehicles about how riders can help prevent the spread of the virus.

Though the disease is spreading, public officials have urged people not to panic and to go about their daily lives. Still, you should avoid areas with high concentrations of people. If taking the bus or train and you see it is very crowded, wait for the next one if possible, officials said.
