"Trees are critical infrastructure, building resiliency and fostering good health in our nation's cities," she said. "We're proud City of Glen Cove is among the Arbor Day Foundation's growing network of communities dedicated to creating positive impact through trees."

Tree City USA recognizes cities and towns that utilize urban forestry to enhance sustainability in their communities, and to earn its recognition, a city has to maintain a tree board or department, have a community tree ordinance, and spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry. The town or city also has to participate in an Arbor Day celebration.

Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck said that earning the 25th year as a Tree City USA is a testament to the city's dedication to environmental stewardship.

"I am incredibly grateful to the members of our Beautification and Tree Commissions," she said. "Their commitment to protecting and enhancing our local ecosystem is what makes this recognition possible year after year."

City of Glen Cove officials said trees in urban spaces can mitigate the urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and boost the mental and physical health of its residents.
