BROOKLYN, NY — The FBI is investigating Congressman George Santos for a claim that he defrauded a military veteran out of $3,000 for his dying service dog, Politico reported.

As Patch previously reported, two New Jersey men said Santos cleared funds from a GoFundMe account created to give the dog life-saving treatment, and the future congressman disappeared.

Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District contacted Navy vet Richard Osthoff about his allegations, Politico reported Wednesday.

Osthoff gave the Feds text messages from 2016 with Santos, Politico reported.

It is the latest investigation to hit the freshman representative, whose finances have come into question, and who admitted to fabricating much of his background.
