Former Nassau Comptroller George Maragos To Lead Dems In Glen Cove Elections

GLEN COVE, NY — Former Nassau County comptroller George Maragos will lead the Democratic ticket in the mayoral race in the November elections for Glen Cove City Council, party officials announced in a news release.

Maragos, a private business owner who has served as the vice president at both Citibank and Chase, has "the proven experience of managing multibillion-dollar budgets in order to fix the city’s finances and the business management experience to get Glen Cove moving again," party officials said.

He has lived in Glen Cove since 2016.

Maragos said he looks "forward to working together with residents and our Democratic candidates to make Glen Cove a better place for our families, our youth, our seniors, and our veterans."

"I value and will support our police, the volunteer fire, and EMS men and women who protect us," he said. "Glen Cove should become a smart, green, suburban city with growth, vitality, and sound finances. I will support our public schools and teachers to improve our student achievements and their safety. We have such great potential to make our city better."

Assemb. Chuck Lavine said Maragos "has the breadth of experience from the public and private sectors that we need to make Glen Cove better."

"Our city must have leaders who will focus on the issues that affect us daily while promoting a strong vision for the years ahead," he said. "I fully support George for Mayor along with his superb ticket for City Council."

Nassau Legis. Delia DeRiggi-Whitton said she is proud to endorse Maragos.

"I worked with George when he was Nassau County Comptroller and have seen his successful management of complex municipal budgets," she said. "His leadership will move Glen Cove on the right track and allow us to revitalize in the most efficient way. I look forward to running with George and his great team this fall."

Maragos will face off on Nov. 7 against incumbent Republican Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck. Her ticket includes Grady Farnan, Roni-sue Jenkins, Michael Ktistakis, Kevin Maccarone, Jack Macusi, and Barabara Bella-Peebles.

Joining Maragos includes incumbents Councilmember Marsha Silverman brings 30 years experience in finance/data analytics at Fortune 100 companies and Councilwoman Danielle Fugazy Scagliola, a freelance journalist for over 20 years.

The ticket also includes Joe Manfredi, a faculty member at SUNY Old Westbury in the American Studies and Media Communications Department and radio station manager at OWWR.

Also included in the ticket is Theresa Pergola, a certified human resource professional at a federally-qualified health center serving individuals with developmental disabilities, and John Zozzaro, the owner of Pizza Company 7 and the prior owner of The Downtown Cafe.

The ticket also includes Joanne Yee, a controller at a property management company and a licensed real estate agent.

Silverman is the city’s liaison to the finance committee, the senior center, and the school district. She is on the board of the Nassau County Equal Opportunity Commission and the city's Memorial Day Parade committee.

Scagliola, a mother of four children, is the city’s liaison to the youth bureau, president of Glen Cove Education Foundation, and a member of the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District.

Manfredi, who was inducted in 2022 into the WCWP/88.1FM Hall of Fame, previously worked at News 12, and at WABC TV Eyewitness News.

Pergola is the mother of triplets and a champion of the environment, public safety, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Zozarro is a board member of the Nicholas-Pedone Foundation and was previously on the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District for five years.

Yee is a board member of GCHS MPAPA, a Parent Teacher Association board member for over 20 years with a long history of community service in various school and city activities.

She is also a mother of three who loves animals.

Glen Cove's Democratic leader Cindy Silletti said she is proud of the team’s "ability, passion, and dedication for public service."

"They will work hard for all residents and uphold Democratic Values in our City of Glen Cove,” she said.
