Holiday Cheer in Glen Cove

Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Girl Scout Troop 1844 help Glen Cove Youth Bureau bring happiness on Thanksgiving.

Glen Cove families enjoyed Thanksgiving cheer, thanks to the collaboration of several organizations.

The East Island Association’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors program, for the sixth straight year, assisted the Friends of the Glen Cove Youth Board and the Glen Cove Youth Bureau with their holiday food basket program.

The association spearheaded a food drive to benefit needy families in Glen Cove. Aided by elves from Girl Scout Troop 1844, the Association delivered turkeys, fixings and monetary donations. In addition, members of Troop 1844 held a food drive at Stop and Shop, transported turkeys, sorted nonperishable food donations and packed meals for families. All together, the donation helped the Youth Bureau provide meals for over 115 families this past Thanksgiving.

The East Island Association’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors program was established in 2008 as a way for the East Island community to help their neighbors in need on East Island, as well as in the larger Glen Cove community. The drive was spearheaded by East Island resident Julie McCann.
