Peconic Man Killed, Greenport Man Charged With DWI in Wrong-Way Crash
Accident occurred in Greenport Saturday evening.

One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash caused by a wrong-way drunk driver in Greenport Saturday evening, according to Southold Town Police.
Police said 71-year-old John Costello, of Greenport, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet truck east on Route 25 when he crossed over into the westbound lane and struck a 2006 Honda shortly before 7 p.m.
A passenger in the Honda, 34-year-old Miguel Bartolome, of Peconic, died from his injuries at Eastern Long Island Hospital, police said.

The driver of the Honda, 22-year-old Oseas Ramirez, of Peconic, was treated and released from ELIH, police said.
Costello was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested, police said. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries and he remains in police custody.

Costello is charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, but an investigation by Southold Town Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office remains active.
