Lavine Responds to Politicization of State Education Initiative

November 12, 2024

GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) has sent a letter to all Nassau County School Superintendents in response to the false characterization of the Department of Education’s Regionalization initiative as a state-led takeover of our school districts.

In his letter Lavine refers to a pre-Election Day rally on the issue as “nothing more and nothing less than political theater designed to frighten the public.”

Lavine points out that “There is no such danger, there is no such threat. The rally may as well have been called to warn of the impending approach of the menacing tag-team of Bigfoot and the Sasquatch.”

He also notes that “the State Education Department website, NYSED.GOV, makes it perfectly explicit that any district desiring to engage in shared services with any other district can do so completely voluntarily.”

Lavine’s letter in its entirety is attached.
