SAFE GC Coalition: Glen Cove Youth Too Good for Drugs and Violence

Glen Cove youth are participating in a prevention education program called Too Good for Drugs & Violence.

Glen Cove youth are participating in a prevention education program called Too Good for Drugs & Violence- an evidence-based prevention program that prepares youth with the skills they need for academic, social, and life success. Interactive games and activities are utilized to provide practical guidance on dating and relationships, building healthy friendships, and refusing negative peer influence. Lessons foster analysis and discussion of the effects of Alcohol, Tobacco and other drug use as well as prescription and over the counter drug use and various nicotine delivery devices. Youth also analyze the impact of social media on decision making, reaching goals, and self- identity. The lessons use collaborative and experiential learning strategies to help youth practice the skills proven to prevent violence and other risky behaviors.

According to Brenda Lopez, Program Facilitator, “youth need to learn how to navigate the challenges of social and academic pressures like making responsible decisions, managing stress and anger, reflecting on personal relationships, and resolving conflicts”.

The program began on September 30 followed by every other Friday. Enrollment is open to the public and is appropriate for High School aged youth. 8 p.m. Ciudad de Refugio, 47 Cottage Row, Glen Cove.
