Santos, Feds Could Be Working On Plea Deal

The first-term congressman was indicted in May on charges that include wire fraud and money laundering.

BROOKLYN, NY — Congressman George Santos may be seeking a plea agreement in his federal case, The New York Daily News reports.

Santos, the first-term Republican, initially not guilty to the May indictment on charges that include wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements to Congress.

Santos was due to appear in court last Thursday, but both sides are seeking an adjournment until next month.

While Santos has denied a plea deal is being worked on, a motion was filed Tuesday by prosecutors saying the government and the congressman are "continued to discuss possible paths forward in this matter," US Attorney Breon Peace said.

Jody Kass with Concerned Citizens of NY-03 said: "We are seeking his ouster and call for any plea arrangement to include his immediate resignation."

Since his election win last November, Santos has been called on various lies including his professional experience and his family history.

in March, the House Ethics Committee launched a probe into the freshman representative, who covers parts of Queens and Nassau.
