Tree That Crushed Long Island Home Had ‘Numerous Red Flags,’ Company Says
A certified arborist explains how the entire incident could have been prevented.

A local tree service company determined extensive root rot caused a large tree to fall over in heavy winds and crush a Glen Cove home on Monday morning.
Joseph Douso, President of Woody Tree Service, Inc. of Glen Cove, says the tree had “numerous red flags” that if addressed, could have prevented the entire incident.
A 60-year-old woman inside her Buckeye street home just missed getting crushed by a large tree that fell onto the house. The den and bedroom in the ranch-style home were completely destroyed and the resident was luckily unharmed from the incident.

Woody Tree Service removed the tree that caused serious damage to the home. The fallen tree was a Gray Beech Tree with a trunk diameter of 36 inches and a height of 105 feet, the company says.
“This illustrates the need for all homeowners to have a certified arborist inspect their trees every few years,” Douso said in a statement to Patch. “Most of the time, everything will be fine, but a preventative visit from an arborist can help avoid this kind of horrific damage.”
