Worker Falls 9 Stories Down Flatiron Elevator Shaft: Police
A 33-year-old man died Tuesday morning when he fell down the elevator shaft at 111 E. 24th St., police said.

FLATIRON, NY — An elevator technician died when he fell down the shaft of a Flatiron District building Tuesday morning, said police.
The 33-year-old construction worker fell from the ninth floor into an elevator shaft at 111 E. 24th St. around 8:50 a.m., according to police.
Emergency responders who rushed to the site were unable to save the man's life and pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

The Department of Buildings filed a complaint after the man died for “site conditions endangering workers," city records show.
DOB inspectors have issued at least 20 violations in the past year against the building's contractor, Trinity Builders, for unsafe working conditions that included tripping hazards, missing guardrails and six-foot holes in the floors, city records show.

A Trinity Builders representative was not immediately available to comment.
The man’s identity was not immediately released and the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, said police.
