Great Neck Memorial Day Parade Set to Honor Those Who Gave All
Former Marine Sgt. Elliot Lichtenstein named grand marshal.

Great Neck will be on parade Monday during the 89th annual Memorial Day parade to honor who active service members who have served and died in the name of freedom.
The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Schenk Avenue and Middle Neck Road, near the Long Island Rail Road station. The parade will make its way north on Middle Neck Road before concluding at the Village Green in the Old Village.
Parade organizers say their goal was to evoke the core meaning of the holiday which honors veterans who have sacrificed and served.
"We do this every year to help remind people of the true meaning of Memorial Day," said parade committee member Louise McCann, a retired U.S. Army master sergeant.
This year’s parade marks the third consecutive year with participation of The Royal Canadian Legion, Ontario Branch #50. Also included in the lineup is the contigents from the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Kings Point, veterans
Keeping with tradition, representatives from U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will lead the way.
This year’s parade grand marshal is former Marine Sgt. Elliot Lichtenstein, from Great Neck.
Members of the Great Neck American Legion Post No. 160 and the Great Neck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 372, area schools, local governments, civic organizationsThe remembrance service was concluded with the dedication and laying of wreaths at Great Neck’s newly renovated veterans memorial. and volunteers from the Vigilant and Alert fire departments are expected to participate.
Following the parade, a remembrance service and wreath dedication will take place at Great Neck's newly renovated veterans memorial on the Village Green.
McCann said a final Memorial Day tribute will take place Monday at All Saints Cemetery at 855 Middle Neck Rd.
