More Rain, More Beach Closings
North Hempstead Beach Park among 13 closed by health department after recent storms.

This week's stormy weather prompted the Nassau County Health Department to close 13 beaches on the North Shore Friday.
Runoff water from recent rainfall can elevate bacteria levels and put locals at risk when swimming.
The following beaches were closed to bathers Friday:

- Laurel Hollow Beach
- Morgan Sound
- North Hempstead Beach Park
- Piping Rock Beach Club
- Prybil Beach
- Ransom Beach
- Sea Cliff Village Beach
- Soundside Beach
- Stehli Beach
- Tappen Beach
- Theodore Roosevelt Beach
Officials already recorded elevated levels of bacteria in Laurel Hollow Beach waters and have closed it to bathers until further notice.
Representatives said the beaches typically reopen the next day as long as the area gets less than a half-inch of rainfall. The North Shore is due to get thunderstorms Friday night.
